New features

Track Mute: Event vs. Audio Mute

Track Mute now offers greater flexibility with a new option to toggle between Audio Mute and Event Mute for supported track types. This enhancement applies to tracks containing both MIDI events and an audio path, including:

  • Drum Tracks
  • Plugin Tracks
  • Keygroup Tracks

For MIDI and CV tracks, Event Mute will always be applied, while Audio Tracks will always use Audio Mute, regardless of the selected option.

  • Event Mute silences new MIDI events but allows any currently playing events to ring out naturally.
  • You can seamlessly switch between Event Mute and Audio Mute via the Track Mute Toolbar, giving you more control over how your tracks behave during muting.

Export Drum Pads as Separate Stems

Exporting individual drum pad stems is now more streamlined, allowing greater flexibility in mixing and post-production. You can render an audio stem for each pad with events in a drum track. To export drum pads as stems:

  1. Load a drum kit and record your pattern into the MPC sequencer.
  2. With the drum track selected, press MENU and then choose SAVE.
  3. In the SAVE selector, choose Drum Pads as Stems.
  4. Specify your preferred audio format and destination for the stems.
  5. Hit EXPORT to render your stems for easy mixing in your DAW.

Faster Sample Loading

  • Improved Performance: Sample loading now runs on a background thread, significantly reducing load times for programs, tracks, and projects.
  • Streamlined Program Handling: Replacing programs and samples is now more efficient, especially when loading a new program file into a track that already contains existing samples.

Bug Fixes

  • [NEW] Occasional hang that was seen on startup and update has been resolved
  • [NEW] Crash no longer occurs when exporting Looper to Audio Track after reordering tracks
  • [NEW] Loading an MPC2 project from the Recent field will load correctly and no longer show an empty project
  • [NEW] Mute automation is no longer locked in after using Explode Track
  • [NEW] Sample start and end points are now retained on loading
  • [NEW] Playback latency no longer occurs when loop brace is set beyond independent track length
  • [NEW] When the maximum number of tracks is reached the “Load to new track” button is now greyed out in the browser
  • [NEW] ‘Send To’ is no longer removed from I/O after reordering receiving track
  • [NEW] Resolved an issue where certain MP3 files caused the TUI to hang
  • [NEW] Resolved an issue where certain NFTS drives would not appear

New features

Track Mute Per Sequence

The MPC 3 update introduces a highly requested feature—Track Mute Per Sequence, allowing users to have different tracks muted per sequence for more dynamic and customizable arrangements.

How to Enable Track Mute Per Sequence:

  1. Access Track Mute:
    • Navigate to the Track Mute screen.
  2. Enable Track Mute State Per Sequence:
    • Tap the settings icon in the top right corner.
    • In the popup menu, turn Track Mute State Per Sequence to On.

This feature allows you to create unique mute setups for each sequence, providing greater flexibility in live performance and arrangement creation. You can now switch between sequences with different muted tracks, enhancing creative control over your music.

Sliced to Audio Track

This MPC 3 update introduces a powerful new feature allowing users to export a Sliced Audio sample directly to an audio track. This feature is designed to maintain the original bar-beat-pulse (BBP) start and length positions of audio regions, making it easier to slice unwarped audio and adjust sequence tempos without altering the audio content within the regions or introducing time stretching artifacts.

How to Use the Sliced to Audio Track Feature on a drum break:

  1. Prepare the Drum Break:
    • In Sample Edit Chop, trim a drum break so it's a whole number of bars in length.
  2. Slice the Drum Break:
    • Use the Threshold or Manual slicing methods to add slices for each drum hit.
  3. Convert to Audio Track:
    • Hold the SHIFT hardware button and press the CONVERT f-key on the TUI.
    • In the Convert or Assign popup, select Audio Track from Samples in the Convert To field.
  4. Assign the Sample:
    • To assign the sliced audio sample to an existing audio track, untick the Create New Track option.
    • To preserve the sound of individual drum hits and avoid introducing timestretching artifacts, make sure Warp Enabled is unticked.
  5. Set Length:
    • Adjust the Bars field to match the length of your drum break, then press DO IT.

Result

  • The sliced audio sample is added to the selected audio track as a series of sliced regions.
  • You can adjust the sequencer tempo (slow down or speed up) while the drum hits retain their bbp start and length. The audio content inside the regions will adapt in length, allowing tempo changes without introducing artifacts associated with timestretching.

Stem Seperation - Minor algorithm improvements for better audio quality and stem separation. Note: These improvements result in increased processing time on standalone devices.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed track/pad mute latency when reading automation or using TC quantize within Track/Pad Mute modes
  • Arpeggiator is now enabled when the Arp button is pressed
  • Can now select Arrangement tab in Main Mode with the Channel Strip panel open
  • Load FX Rack button for Buses in Main Mode now opens correctly first time
  • Sample Edit now opens with the last sample you selected displayed
  • Double tapping full screen faders now resets the value to default
  • AIR Expander is now present
  • Crash no longer occurs when entering banks E-H in Next Sequence mode

Known issues

Downloading the Software Update

To download the MPC 2.14 Desktop Software Update, log into your inMusic profile, or update within MPC 2 when prompted.

New features

Stem Seperation

The latest update in the MPC desktop software introduces a powerful Stem Separation capability.

Now, you can easily split any track into distinct stems: vocals, bass, drums, or other instrumental elements. With this feature, isolate vocals for your own acapellas, discover new drum breaks with the Drum stem, or utilize the ‘Other’ stem to craft melodic instrumental content for creative manipulation.

Simply head to AkaiPro.com to purchase the MPC Stem Separation feature.

After acquiring your Stem Separation license through the MPC desktop software follow these steps

  • Go to Preferences
  • From the Activation tab Download and Activate the Stem Separation feature.

Performing Stem Separation:

Assigning Four Stems to Sample Pool:

  1. Drag any song into the sample pool via the desktop GUI.
  2. Access Sample Edit and initiate the stem separation process from the GUI's Sample Edit mode functions panel. In the popup, select which stems you wish to render into new audio files using the Vocal, Bass, Drums, Other buttons.
  3. Ensure the 'Assign to Pad' checkbox is unticked.
  4. Enable 'Use Trimmed Sample' to trim the source sample between Start and End points before the stem separation process. If unticked, MPC will maintain any existing slices in the new stemmed samples.
  5. Click 'Do It.'

Assigning Four Stems to a Single Drum Program Pad:

  1. Drag any song onto a pad of a drum program via the desktop GUI.
  2. Access the stem separation process by clicking the 'Create Stems' icon in the GUI Grid/Wave/List toolbar or using the shortcut in the GUI Sample Edit mode functions panel.
  3. In the popup, choose the stems you want to render into new audio files using the Vocal, Bass, Drums, Other buttons (for now, leave all four stems selected).
  4. Utilize the Program and Pad fields to assign the new stems to a program and pad.
  5. Tick the 'Assign to Pad' checkbox to automatically assign the stems to the chosen pads' four layers. Unticking loads the stems into the sample pool exclusively.
  6. Similar to the previous process, decide on 'Use Trimmed Sample' based on your preference.
  7. Click 'Do It.'

Now, manipulate and explore different stems by adjusting the four sample layers' volume levels.

Editing Start and End Points for All Four Layers Simultaneously:

  1. Access the GUI program edit panel and enable 'Edit All Layers', the parameter can also be found in the GUI Wave panel.
  2. Modify sample parameters like Start and End points or layer-specific automation parameters such as Semi or Fine tuning. Changes made here will apply uniformly to all four layers.

Experiment freely with the Start and End points on Layer 1, knowing that these adjustments will be mirrored across all four layers simultaneously.
